Oppo Reno 2F Review: Powerful Gaming Processor & Quad Camera in Midrange Smartphone
Oppo launched both the Oppo Reno 2 and Oppo Reno 2F in 2019. Reno 2F is the trimmed-down version of Reno 2, a mid-range phone in the brand’s gallery. In the arena of affordable phones with powerful specs, this phone outnumbered many of its competitors. Despite being the little brother of Reno 2, it comes with many fantastic specs like a 6.5 inches AMOLED screen with Full HD+ resolution, in-display fingerprint scanner, VOOC Flash charging 3.0, MediaTek Helio P70 processor, 8GB RAM and to power all these, a large 4000 mAh battery. This device is pretty much similar to others in the Reno series, including Oppo Reno 2Z and Oppo Reno 3 Pro.
Design and Display
The Oppo Reno 2F looks and feels premium with its flagship design. This device features a glass sandwich design, with both the front and back have Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The frame is made up of aluminum with a glossy finish. The phone is easy and comfortable to handle despite its large size comprising 8.67 mm thick, 161.80mm long and its width is 75.80 mm. It weighs 195g.
The bottom of the phone has the USB-C port placed centrally. There’s a headphone jack at the bottom left and a speaker on the right. The power button is placed at the right side while its split volume button is at the left side.
The 6.5 inches AMOLED panel features a FullHD+ resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels at 394 PPI. The bezel is like a thin line and the exciting thing is that the screen ratio is 91.1 % and there is no notch to block your view. The display has good color and brightness even in broad daylight. You’ll feel the magic of the screen while streaming Netflix, watching youtube videos, or while playing games. The huge screen ratio provides an immersive experience while browsing, reading books or messages, scrolling through the menu, and all.

Camera
The camera is another great thing on Oppo Reno 2F with a quad-camera setup in the rear. There is a 48MP wide-angle camera with an f/1.7 aperture lens, an 8MP ultrawide camera with f/2.25 aperture, a 2MP depth camera with f/2.4 aperture, and finally a 2MP monochrome camera with f/2.4 aperture lens.
The overall camera performance of Oppo Reno 2F is quite efficient when it comes to daylight shooting. The images are sharp, the color reproduction is great and with plenty of details. With the ultra-wide-angle sensor, you can capture landscape without even worrying about missing any details and you can add more people to the frame. The wide camera does a good job in ordinary as well as close-ups shots with decent sharpness and plenty of details. The Autofocus feature is just awesome which helps to shoot detailed and clear pictures in a brief period.
The portrait mode works smoothly, it can easily capture human subjects and you can adjust the amount of blur in the picture you take. The night mode on this phone is great as it is equipped with the most powerful night mode. It features multi-frame noise reduction and HDR imaging, which process the subject and background differently. The night mode experience is just wow. You can notice your skin tone while keeping the background sharp and colorful, with a lot of details.
The front camera is also a charm to Oppo Reno 2F. It is a motorized pop-up camera with a 16MP wide-angle lens and f/2.0 aperture. The front camera will help spread magic in your social media as its camera will let you click images as never before with decent sharpness, supersaturation, and enough details, thanks to the HDR effect. The portrait mode offered by the front camera helps in smooth edge detection. There is a smart skin tone recognition that adjusts your skin tone based on the ambient lighting condition.
The rear camera in Oppo Reno 2F can shoot 1080p video at 30fps and 720p at 30fps. There is no 4K video recording, but the 1080p recording is smooth and stabilized. This is more than enough if you want to capture moments. You can even capture the video in a wide-angle view and the landscape video is a thing that this camera can easily dominate. For a cool cinematic video experience, it features slow-motion and time-lapse too. The smart video editor automatically adds music to your footage perfectly matching the timing and transition of your footage (a new and cool feature to the editor).

Chipset
The Oppo Reno 2F is powered by an octa-core Mediatek Helio P70 Chipset. It has Mali-G72 MP3 as its GPU and a large 8GB RAM combined with 128GB internal storage. Though this chipset could have been better, it is not that bad for this price range. Being one of the latest in the smartphone industry, this processor does a fine job which means that there’s no struggle in running any apps or just doing any task. With 8 GB RAM, the multi-tasking is smooth and the chipset in overall executes all the tasks brilliantly.
The only flaw in Oppo Reno 2F is that the chipset is not the latest and one can find the latest version in other lower-range smartphones too. Heavy games like PUBG, Asphalt, and Call of Duty are smooth to play, and you can perform best in the game without even worrying about lagging performance, but you have to reduce the graphics frame rate.
Battery
The Oppo Reno 2F is equipped with a large 4000 mAh Li-Po non-removable battery that supports 20W fast charging technology and VOOC 3.0. This battery is pretty much what you need with all these powerful specs. It is more than enough to run the phone all day long even after playing games, watching videos, or scrolling social media feeds. The endurance rating of the battery is solid. And even if you run out of battery then you can top up 50% battery in just 30 minutes.
