iPhone XS is still the Best Smartphone in 2020 | Price in Nepal & Review
Launched in September 2018, iPhone XS is still the fastest, the prettiest, the sturdiest, the most luxurious, the most skilled, and one the most expensive iPhones. It comes with a 5.8 inches touchscreen display and resolution of 2436X1125 pixels at a pixel density of 458 PPI. It runs iOS 12 and packs 64GB of inbuilt storage. But yet it is the same as any other iPhone, design and looks, the notched OLED screen, the telephoto camera, Face ID, and battery capacity – it’s still the same.
It is powered by hexa-core Apple A12 Bionic processor that offers a 15% faster processor and 50% faster graphics than its predecessor. The summit of the A12 is the second-gen NPU that can do 5 trillion operations per second, an enormous improvement for the machine-learning scene at that time.
Apple also made some significant improvements with the camera than its predecessor including a new sensor with substantial pixels, a new signal processor, Smart HDR, and stereo audio in videos. Moreover, digital video stabilization for the front camera, better stereo speakers, faster LTE, dual-SIM, high standard water resistance, and durable glass panels.
iPhone XS is no longer directly sold by the company, but we can claim that retailers still have stock available for this phone.
iPhone 11 Pro Max detailed Review
Design and Display
The design Apple has for iPhone XS is similar as iPhone X, but you surely will feel the differences in it. The glass-sandwich design is nothing unseen, that’s true, but the stainless-steel frame with a glossy finish is what makes this phone interesting. As it features Gorilla Glass 6, the glass is undeniably durable, and also with the extra protection of oleophobic coating, the phone is safe from smudges too. Despite the weight and large display, it fits well in hand, and looks fancy.
The font features 5.8 inches AMOLED panel, the same as iPhone X with the same resolution, HDR, and Dolby Vision support, 120Hz touch-sensing. The screen has1125 x 2436px resolution and the pixel density is 458ppi – pretty flagship levels. The true tone adjustment brings a whole lot of potential in the overall display experience. The entertainment, gaming, and reading experience are just super refined.
Chipset
The new iPhone XS is powered by a 7nm chipset- the A12 Bionic (Apple’s first 7nm chipset). As mentioned before, the height of the A12 Bionic was the new hexacore neural engine, which can do up to 5 trillion operations per second, up from the 600 million in A11 Bionic. So of course, the A12 has the fastest processor, it has the Hexa-core design with two 2.49GHz units called Vortex and four tempest cores. It promises that the big cores are 15% faster and 40% more power-efficient than the A11’s Monsoons.
The performance of this phone is smooth with super-efficient memory management in which Apple is specialized. Scrolling, going through the menu, browsing the internet, playing heavier games, using larger apps, and multitasking is simply awesome on this device.
Camera
The Apple iPhone XS features a similar dual-12MP (wide-angle+telephoto) camera setup in the rear. The wide-angle sensor is situated behind the 1.8/f aperture lens and the telephoto behind the 2.4/f aperture lens, both with optical image stabilization, there is a quad-LED dual-tone flash which is covered by a scratch-resistant sapphire glass. Though the telephoto camera has the same 1.0µm pixels as before, there is an advancement in the main shooter, that is it’s larger pixels (from 1.22µm to 1.4µm).
The overall camera performance is fantastic. It offers nice accurate colors, decent sharpness, and better rendition in images. The output from this camera setup is pretty much flagship-grade. The image has plenty of resolved details, low noise, and the dynamic range is above average. For video recording, there is a massive upgrade and that is the stereo recording with wide sound separation for richer sound and better listening experience.
The front camera features the same 7MP with f/2.2 aperture selfie camera as in the iPhone X, but the sensor has improved in speed if not in resolution, thanks to the new ISP. The front camera now can record 1080p videos at 60fps, and there is cinematic video stabilization available.
Battery
The iPhone XS is equipped with a Li-Ion 2,658 mAh battery similar to the capacity as the iPhone X and iPhone 8 Plus. The iPhone XS comes with the ordinary 5V/1A wall charger which will replenish only 22% of a dead battery in a 30-min charging session.
The phone does support fast charging through USB-C power delivery but you have to have a USB-C-to-lighting cable and use a compatible charger for MacBook. By this, you can charge 55% of an empty battery in half an hour. The overall performance of the battery is pretty much decent, with an endurance rating of 72 hours. It supports wireless charging too.
